Why HKS801-L23?
Overview

01
8 computers. A tidy workplace.
Share one monitor, keyboard, and mouse across up to eight computers. The HKS0801A30 consolidates your devices at a single workstation and simplifies switching between systems – whether in your home office, studio, or at your desk.

02
Integrate into central control systems
LAN and RS232 control complement local operation. This allows input selection to be integrated into suitable management and automation processes. The LAN control port is used for device management; it is not a shared Gigabit network adapter for computers.

Frequently asked questions
You can find further answers in our Help Center.
[Compatibility] Which computers and monitors does the HKS801-P23 support?
Up to 8 HDMI computers and one HDMI monitor. One USB port per input group is required for keyboard, mouse, and shared USB devices.
[Compatibility] What resolutions and refresh rates are possible?
Maximum resolution 3840×2160 at 60 Hz in 4:4:4. Other formats: 3440×1440 at 100 Hz, 3840×1080 and 2560×1440 at 120 Hz, 2560×1080 at 165 Hz, and 1920×1080 at 240 Hz. The source, display, and cable must support the format.
[Compatibility] Which operating systems are supported?
According to the instructions, Unix, Windows, macOS and Linux are supported, including Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora and Raspbian for Raspberry Pi.
[Compatibility] Does DVI work with this KVM switch?
Yes. According to the manual, DVI-D single-link sources and displays work with suitable HDMI-DVI adapters.
[Functions] What does EDID emulation do?
EDID emulation at each input keeps monitor information available, preserves window positions, and reduces reinitialization and flickering.
[Connections] Can the computers share USB 3.0 devices?
Yes. Compatible devices connected to USB 3.2 Gen 1 will follow the selected computer.
[Connections] What are LAN and RS232 used for?
LAN uses TCP/IP control commands, RS232 the documented serial protocol. LAN does not share network access with the computers.
[Functions] What are Auto-Scan and Auto Detect?
Auto-Scan switches between active inputs at a fixed interval. Auto Detect selects newly active sources or, when a source is removed, selects a different active input. Auto Detect is enabled by default.
[Functions] Can I turn off the monitor without turning off the KVM?
Yes. Pressing 0/Close on the control panel disables HDMI and reduces power consumption. Pressing it again restores the picture.
[Furnishings] How do I connect each computer?
Connect each computer to its input group via HDMI and USB. Connect monitor, keyboard, mouse, shared USB devices, optional IR receiver, and 12V power supply.
[Switch] How do I switch between computers?
Control is possible via control panel, IR remote control, hotkeys, mouse wheel, RS232, or TCP/IP over LAN. The mouse wheel function must first be activated.
[Compatibility] Which keyboard is suitable for hotkeys?
Use an external full keyboard with a dedicated Scroll Lock key connected to the designated keyboard/mouse port. The default trigger is right Ctrl; Scroll Lock is available as an alternative.
[Switch] How do I activate the mouse wheel function?
Press the trigger button twice, then F6. Once activated, a double-click of the mouse wheel switches to the next input. This function is disabled by default.
[Switch] How do I choose a specific entrance?
Via buttons 1–8 on the control panel or remote control. Via standard hotkey: press right Ctrl twice and enter the desired input number.
