Frequently asked questions
You can find further answers in our Help Center.
[Compatibility] Which computers and displays does the HKS801-EB23 support?
Up to eight HDMI computers and one HDMI monitor. Each computer needs the USB port on its KVM cable for keyboard, mouse, and shared USB devices.
[Compatibility] Which operating systems are supported?
According to the instructions, Unix, Windows, macOS and Linux are supported, including Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora and Raspbian for Raspberry Pi.
[Compatibility] Does DVI work with this KVM switch?
Yes. According to the manual, DVI-D single-link sources and displays work with suitable HDMI-DVI adapters.
[Functions] What does EDID emulation do?
EDID emulation on each input keeps monitor information readily available and reduces re-initialization, flickering, and rearranged desktops.
[Connections] Can the computers share USB devices?
Yes. Compatible devices connected to standard USB 2.0 ports will follow the selected computer.
[Functions] What is Auto-Scan?
Auto-scan automatically switches between powered-on computers. Disabled by default; the interval is adjustable from 5 seconds to 1 hour.
[Functions] What is Auto Detect?
Auto Detect selects newly connected active computers and, for remote sources, the nearest active input. It is active by default; switchable via IR remote control.
[Connections] What are LAN and RS232 used for?
LAN uses TCP/IP control commands, RS232 the documented serial protocol. LAN does not share network access with the eight computers.
[Furnishings] How do I connect each computer?
Connect the HDMI and USB ports to the appropriate input group using KVM cables. Connect the monitor, keyboard, mouse, USB 2.0 devices, optional IR receiver, and 12V power supply.
[Switch] How do I switch between computers?
Control is possible via control panel, IR remote control, hotkeys, mouse wheel, RS232, or TCP/IP over LAN. The mouse wheel function must first be activated.
[Compatibility] Which keyboard is suitable for hotkeys?
Use an external full keyboard with its own Scroll Lock key connected to the designated keyboard/mouse port. The default trigger is right Ctrl.
[Switch] Can I select a computer directly by port number?
Yes. Pressing right Ctrl twice and then selecting the number 1–8 chooses the respective input.
[Functions] Can I turn off the monitor without turning off the KVM?
Yes. Pressing 0/Close on the control panel disables HDMI and reduces power consumption. Pressing it again restores the picture.
