Frequently asked questions
You can find further answers in our Help Center.
[Compatibility] Which devices does the THK401-X4 support?
Input 1 connects to a compatible Mac, including supported MacBook Air/Pro, Mac mini, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro. Input 2 connects to a second computer via HDMI and USB. Inputs 3 and 4 are additional HDMI inputs for PS5, Xbox, or media players. All share an Apple Studio Display.
[Compatibility] Can I connect a PS5, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch?
Yes. Use an HDMI input with up to 4K at 60 Hz. Console settings, game, cable, and display mode determine resolution and audio performance.
[Compatibility] Does the THK401-X4 work with other displays?
The THK401-X4 is primarily designed for Apple Studio Display. Tested models include Studio Display, Pro Display XDR, and select LG UltraFine displays from the compatibility list. Other Thunderbolt 4 displays may also work. Standard USB-C displays are not guaranteed; check with support before purchasing.
[Compatibility] Is Intel's THK401-X4 certified for Thunderbolt?
The THK401-X4 is not yet certified by Intel for Thunderbolt. It is designed for Thunderbolt 4-compatible computers and has been tested in common setups for video output, data connectivity, and device switching. Certification is in progress.
[Compatibility] Which one fits: THK401-X4 or TKS202-X4?
The THK401-X4 is suitable for one Apple Studio Display, one Thunderbolt 4-compatible computer, and multiple HDMI devices. The TKS202-X4 is suitable for two Thunderbolt 4-compatible computers connected to two displays.
[Functions] What is the maximum supported resolution?
Input 1: up to 6K at 60 Hz or 5K at 120 Hz. Inputs 2–4: up to 4K at 60 Hz. Computer, display, operating system, cable, and mode determine the actual output.
[Connections] Do all four inputs offer the same functions?
No. Input 1 offers the highest display performance, USB data, and up to 60W laptop charging. Input 2 uses HDMI and a separate USB port for keyboard/mouse, devices, and network. Inputs 3 and 4 are HDMI sources without the same USB, charging, or network capabilities.
[Connections] Can all devices share keyboard, mouse, and USB?
Inputs 1 and 2 are shared by keyboards, mice, and compatible USB devices with the necessary data connection. Inputs 3 and 4 are HDMI sources without a corresponding USB upstream path.
[Audio] Can HDMI devices use the studio display speakers?
The THK401-X4 routes supported HDMI audio to the studio display speakers. Select the correct audio output at the source. Formats, channels, and volume control may vary depending on the hardware version, source, and operating system.
[Load] Can any connected laptop be charged?
No. Only Input 1 provides up to 60W Power Delivery to compatible laptops. Inputs 2–4 do not charge laptops.
[Connections] Can each input use Gigabit Ethernet?
No. Gigabit Ethernet is available to compatible computers at inputs 1/2. HDMI devices at inputs 3/4 do not receive network access via the KVM.
[Switch] How do I switch between connected devices?
The THK401-X4 offers a button on the device itself, an IR remote control, keyboard hotkeys, and a mouse wheel for switching between functions. The mouse wheel function must first be activated.
[Furnishings] Does the THK401-X4 support keyboard hotkeys?
Yes. Connect a compatible wired USB keyboard to the designated keyboard port. Hotkeys may not work with Bluetooth keyboards, standard USB hubs, or some wireless receivers.
[Functions] What are Pass-Through Mode and Legacy Emulation Mode?
Pass-through mode is recommended for modern keyboards and mice and supports many additional functions. In case of problems, legacy emulation mode improves basic keyboard, mouse, and hotkey compatibility. However, some software-dependent additional functions will then be unavailable.
